Amazing Grace
Grace Fraga mixes Latin heat with Southern Charm to create her comedy and way of life. With consistant gigs across the country, a local Los Angeles talk show and a sitcom in production, you'd think she'd be too busy to chat. But Grace is a firecraker and she took the time to share her philosphy on survival in the world of entertainment. See her promo now playing at the BFC Theater. ________________________________________________________________
BFC: Where did you grow up and what
was the culture of your home like?
I grew up in Argentina! My culture was part Spanish,
part Italian. Can you imagine the family reunions? You
mix spicy Spanish food and spicy Italian food and you
have a combo that no intestine can take. A branch of my
family completely disappeared....They blew themselves up
at a family reunion! They call it the Last Supper. Or
was it Suicide Bombing? No one knows...
BFC: Can you elaborate a bit on how
your life in comedy came to be?
I was working 18 hour days a few years ago. I have my
own business. I was both the CEO and the janitor. I was
a Blue Collar Corporate Bitch. Working too hard,
partying too little. So I decided to take a stand up
comedy class. I did a few shows and then I chickened out
and quit . Like one of those really bad sexy boyfriends,
I avoided comedy for four years until I finally caved in
and decided to make love to it full time!
BFC: What are your dreams for your
career and what are you doing to actively pursue them?
My dreams are big yet simple. Have my cable show "Laff
it off with Grace" go national on network TV and be as
rich as the big O.
I'm also working on my sitcom script based on my stand
up comedy. So yes, like every comedian in L.A. I want to
star in my own sitcom! :-)
BFC: What are the obstacles you've
come up against and what have you done to conquer them?
Negative and jealous peeps. I either avoid them like the
plague or kick them in the ass. I like to do that. I'm
all about "kicking butt and having fun".
BFC: How do people perceive you as a
white Latina. Has that fact affected you one way or
another in life or work?
Some people think I'm a fake Latina. Chico, nothing on
me is fake. I'm an organic, down to earth girl. I'm not
like the cosmetically crazed women in LA . I like
NATURAL. Like implant. It has the word PLANT in it. I
tell the peeps who don't think I'm a real Latina. Can't
you tell I dye my hair? That's right, my eyebrows are
usually blonde. And when that doesn't work, I just
showcase my JLo bootie. That usually closes the deal. It
affects me a lot. Like when people look at me they think
I'm a white chick. As soon as they find out I'm latina,
they freak out or hand me a mop.
BFC: Where do you get your
inspiration?
Life. The truth is hilarious.
BFC: Any words of wisdom to others?
You know what they say about "life". My words of wisdom:
Laff the bitch off!
